This post is an extension of our recent throne chair maintenance tips guide. It’s based on many of the questions we receive from our customers after delivering chairs to their homes. It’s easy to read and follow, and provides helpful answers to your most pressing issues regarding throne maintenance in the short and long term.

How often should I clean my throne chair?

We recommend cleaning your throne chair once a week using a soft cloth to remove dust and keep the surface free from debris. If your throne has intricate carvings, deep-clean them monthly to keep them in great shape.

What products should I use to clean my throne chair?

A soft microfiber cloth is perfect for cleaning your throne chair. This will help remove some of the dust and dirt without damaging the chair. Avoid harsh cleaning products, and if you need to use water, use lukewarm water to clean the chair’s surface gently. Finish up by wiping the surface with a dry cloth to remove any excess water from the seat.

What's the best way to protect throne chairs from sun damage?

It might sound obvious, but keeping your chair out of direct sunlight is a start. UV rays, over time, may fade the fabric and dry out the wood. We recommend repositioning your chair periodically to ensure it isn’t in direct sunlight throughout the day.

How do I remove stains from the fabric on my throne chair?

Blot spillages right away using a dry cloth. Never rub the stain, as it will spread and worsen and may damage the upholstery. You can also use a fabric cleaner to tackle tough stains, following the product’s cleaning advice. If there’s a stubborn stain that you just can’t get out of your throne chair, contact a professional upholstery cleaner in your area.

Can I keep my throne chair outside?

Ideally, no, a throne chair is an inside piece of furniture for the most part. Sure, you can use your throne chair on the garden patio for a summer get-together or party, but you shouldn’t leave it outside. Humidity, rain, and sunlight can all damage the throne, so keep it inside throughout the year.

How do I move my throne chair without damaging it?

We get this question a lot! Please don’t drag your throne from the back or arms, as you risk damage to the chair and floor. The best way to move your chair is for two people to lift it together and move it to the preferred position. Though it takes a little extra effort, it’s crucial for avoiding accidental damage.

How should I store my throne chair when I'm not using it?

If you don’t keep your throne chair out in the house year round, store it in dry, climate-controlled environment. Avoid placing it in the outside shed or an uninsulated garage, as the changing temperature can damage the wood. To protect the surface, cover the chair with a breathable fabric to protect it from dust, and don’t stack heavy items on top.

Can I get my throne chair professionally restored?

Absolutely. This is a good idea if your chair has deep scratches, torn upholstery, or structural damage. Furniture restoration isn’t typically as expensive as you might think, but it’s a worthwhile investment if your throne chair is looking a little tired.

Should I wax or oil my throne chair?

We recommend using beeswax for polishing mahogany wood chairs from Throne Kingdom. Beeswax enhances the natural shine of the chair while providing a crucial protective layer. Beeswax is super affordable and widely available, so it’s a great investment if you buy a throne chair. You don’t have to wax your chair every week - once a year should be absolutely fine.

Can AC damage my throne chair?

If you place a throne chair directly underneath an AC unit, it might affect the chair in the long run, due to the moisture and unstable temperature. The same applies if you place your chair next to a radiator or a heating unit. So, keep all mahogany furniture, including throne chairs, away from heating and cooling units, as it is sensitive to extreme temperatures and moisture.

Can I vacuum my throne chair?

You can, but it’s probably not necessary. The best way to dust your throne is with a soft, dry, microfiber cloth. Using a vacuum may cause accidental damage, as it’s easy to tear the upholstery if you’re heavy-handed.

Should I use furniture cleaning products on my throne chair?

We don’t recommend off-the-shelf furniture cleaning products for our throne chairs, as they may cause discoloration and stains. Most of the time, furniture cleaners are unnecessary, and as they may cause damage, they should be avoided. If your chair is looking in bad shape, consult a professional restorer or cleaner, rather than doing the work yourself.

Can my pets sit on my throne chair?

This is entirely up to you. Just be mindful that pets come with unique maintenance challenges. They shed hair, often have sharp claws that can tear the furniture, and may accidentally pee on the chair if they fall into a deep sleep! If you want to snap your furry friend on a throne, we get it. Perhaps put a blanket underneath them to avoid any damage before taking your snap.
